Halloween: Pumpkin carving!

I spent this afternoon carving my pumpkin for Halloween, one of my favourite times of year! My pumpkin is a bit wonky and leans to one side, but I like to think it adds to the creepy effect. This design is so easy to do, I drew it on with a board marker and then cut carefully around it with a sharp knife. I added a red tea light inside for some extra spooky glow! We are using his insides for a Moroccan tagine recipe tonight, yum! Although I'm not planning to go out trick or treating, we always put a pumpkin in the window and give out sweets to the kids that come round. I miss being at Uni at this time of year and going on zombie pub crawls, making a trip to Primark for a cheap t-shirt, then customising it with scissors and loads of fake blood. Drunk zombies are hilarious!

Happy Halloween!

Holiday to York!

Lovely old streets, our hotel room with a four poster, the castle, heaven in shop form, before dinner outfit, the Shambles, view from the very top of the Minster (eek!), the University's Archaeology building.

A few photographs from our week away, with more to follow providing my film develops ok! Very much considering going to do my MA course here in the very near future, it's safe to say I've fallen in love with this city and could see myself living here quite happily! A Mulberry and a Barbour shop- what more could I need?

Glossybox: October 2012 edition.

I sort of forgot to review last month's box, whoops! Oh well, I figured I'd just move on and chat about this one, which is one of the best one's I've received to be honest :)

All of the products for once are things I will definitely use, some I already have and others I am saving for when I go away and need to take smaller products. The 'theme' of this months box is DIY beauty, aimed at having pampering nights in and creating "the ultimate 'home spa' experience". Onto the contents:
  • Dermalogica 3 step day & night skincare kit. I am saving this for when I go away and need to pack light, plus I already have skincare products on the go and want to use them up first. I think this is a handy little kit, the products smell very fresh and lemony. There is a foaming cleanser, and toning spritz and a mattifying moisturiser. It would cost £12 originally so I think it's a great addition to this box. Looking forward to trying it out!
  • Anatomicals body scrub in grapefruit. I was thinking about purchasing the Soap & Glory body scrub a while ago, but it's pricey and I'm glad I waited as this came through the door. There are fine sand particles in this scrub, and they certainly give your skin a good buffing! The product smells lovely and fresh and really makes you feel clean- just clean out your bath/shower after using this as it looks like you've just got back from the seaside! A welcome addition to my shower and I think I'll be repurchasing it again, as the full size is only £3.49.
  • Skinetica anti-blemish solution. Again, anything that might help my skin I look forward to trying out. This is a clear treatment solution you apply every 12 hours to clean skin before moisturiser. It claims that you can see results within 2-3 days, I'll be using this for a week or until it runs out so I'll see how it goes. The ingredients list water and alcohol though, so we'll see. Retails for £6.99 for 100ml.
  • Yves Rocher moisturising lipstick in Mauve. Lovely lipstick, but it doesn't suit me :( If this was slightly more red, it would be perfect! I liked their mascara, so this was a nice product to get.
So, Glossybox have surprised me this month, I like it all! The only little grump I have is that there were only 4 products, despite them advertising 5 per box. Oh well, they are useful products and I'm enjoying using them :) I also used my Glossydots for this box so it was free!

GOODWOOD REVIVAL 2012

Words cannot express how good this weekend was, it was like stepping back in time and I cannot wait to do it all again next year. The clothes, the sheer amount of fox furs, the cars, the vintage Tesco complete with original packaging and cigarettes available at the checkout, the classic telephone box cash machine, the racing drivers' pits, the atmosphere of seeing the motorsport at dusk. Oh Goodwood, see you next year for more amazing experiences! Love, love, LOVE.

Thrifty Finds & Recent Buys

I've been a bit MIA recently, just been very busy and not really felt like documenting my life! However, I have a day off and I thought I'd indulge in one of my favourite past times, charity shop trawling! I managed to find a vintage camel blazer in Oxfam and two lovely little bags recently, both under £3. I also seem to have become hair accessory obsessed...I found the polka dot hair bands in Peacocks and New Look, and the cute little bird one in the Topshop sale for £1.50. The other items are from my recent trip to Southampton shopping center a few weeks ago, plus a sneaky trip to Urban Outfitters last Saturday... oops! I couldn't resist the grey flannel shirt though, it's really thick and warm, perfect for the colder weather we seem to be getting. I got the dress on the right from Topshop, my first size 12, and the print is adorable! The checked shirt-dress is from the Chelsea Girl consession in River Island, it fits well and has long sleeves, I am a bit obsessed with checks/plaid etc, so finding this was perfect! It also comes with a brown belt which is useful, as I seem to lose belts.

I'm only working for 3 days this week, as Goodwood Revival is on Friday!! It seems to have come around so quickly! I have an original 1960s dress, plus a fur stole to wear, I will be doing a huge post on the festival and I hear there are loads of vintage stalls, so I'm expecting to come home with some goodies! Expect LOTS of pictures too :)

In other news: my hair is nearly the desirable platinum shade, it went a little wrong at the hair dressers last week, so I have been offered a free toning treatment on Wednesday. It was one of the most stressful trips I have ever had to a salon, and it wasn't really what I expected. Basically the bleach wasn't washed out properly and my hair didn't lift as expected, so hopefully this free treatment will sort it out! Anyway, I'm going to have some tea now and try and extract the film from my Pentax, cannot wait to get it developed!

Barrington Court: Part II

The garden, the old stable block, the interior, 16th century carvings, equally old lead window decorations.
